F.S Edmonds Library REbuild
Pennsylvania State Representative Chris Rabb contacted The Social Impact Cafe to assist with reviving the school library at
F.S Edmonds. The students had been unable to access the library since their start of school in September 2018. We received the request in February 2019. After all of the team's clearances returned and the students completed their PSSA testing; We entered the school the week of May 13th and COMPLETED THIS PROJECT IN 5 DAYS.
WE UPCYCLED OVER 5,000 + BOOKS.
Each Student from the Franklin Spencer Edmonds Elementary School went home with a week's worth of books. There are 600+ students in attendance in 2019.
We also donated books to the sister school across the street
Ad Prima to ensure their student also have great books to take home and build their own library
INTENTIONS & IMPACT
We wanted to ensure that there was student input on the space that we were redesigning and upcycling. Our team to build for that week included (2) students from F.S. Edmonds, (2) students from Engineering and Science George Washington Carver Highschool, (4) Millenials, and (3) Elders/Seniors from the surrounding community.
1. We received a $100 grant from Rebel Ventures to purchase new supplies.
2. We purchased all the supplies within a 15-minute driving distance of the school.
3. We created a suggested reading guide for the upcoming summer of 2019.
